IMPASTO Magazine is a global visual arts magazine dedicated to posing and exploring the critical questions of the visual arts world today.
With writers based in countries across the world, we aim to provide research-driven articles that span a variety of fields in order to bring back the relevance of the visuals arts to the greater global society.
IMPASTO was founded on one central belief: that raising questions is just as important as answering them when it comes to any discourse on the visual arts.
We seek to dismantle the binary between question and answer; to prove it is all part of the process. Because art does not exist in a bubble and should often be treated as multi-disciplinary, we believe in the potential of an inclusive global art magazine dedicated to research. Many art magazines that are widely available today are pressured by KPIs and encouraged to publish high volumes of articles to meet targets at the risk of sacrificing content quality. Articles about exhibitions and events lean more descriptive than analytic, disregarding why a reader should be interested in the descriptive in the first place ...These are all things IMPASTO is not.
By involving as many regions as possible in a curated global discussion of visual arts that goes beyond starred reviews of exhibitions, we aim to ensure that they are accessible to a broader audience beyond people working in the arts. In doing so, we hope to encourage discourse that has a life off of the glossy pages, past the closing of an exhibition.
